I had read Baby, It's Cold Out Here. I decided to get this too because I wanted to see if her...inexperience was evident here as well, and it was.

Ms. Jourdin's plot was cute and the characters somewhat engaging, but the story felt all over the place.

Using commas instead of periods, or semi-colons.
Using immature words for body parts.
Starting a second conversation while still in the first person's.
Jumping thoughts with no clue to the reader why.
And mostly, immature reactions from an almost thirty year-old and her live-in lover.

I wish I could say that it was worth it, but I don't feel that. Now, on the heels of that statement, I will add I'm NOT DELETING her as an author for me. I'm going to wait a while and if she continues to write, I'll revisit her. She's very close to being really good.

Just Add Heat Genevieve Jourdin 9780615731698 Books Reviews

Love it! Carter and Justine had me laughing out loud. They are so adorable together, and Carter is dreamy. Love this book. Starting on the sequel right away.
Can't remember a thing but the best friend and she is a girl but the good thing is when she does remember. The guy is the best thing for her and she is in love. The book was great I will tell all my friends to read it now.
I have to say that I really liked the book. Even though the anesthesia could have made the story sappy, it didn't. I like the way Justine remembers bits of things. I like the dynamics between the characters. The only flaw for me is the end. What was it about uploading their love making... That was unnecessary.
This is my first read by Genevieve Jourdin. I found it quite good. She tells the story from the woman's p.o.v. And its quite entertaining. I found this to be an interesting way to write. When I read the next book in the mans p.o.v. It brought everything together. I think she did a fantastic job on these two books. I would recommend her to anyone. Her style of writing is captivating. I can't wait to read her next books.
LoveLoveLove! I really enjoyed this book. It had a HEA (Happy Ever After) ending. And the characters are cute together so yeah. Yes you should buy this book...totally worth it! Just Add Heat is from Justine's POV where as Baby It's Cold Outside is from Carter's POV. They are the same stories just from different POVs it's cool to see what they both were thinking when the exact same events where happening.
Just Add Heat is the story of Justine, stricken with amnesia after falling in the shower, and Carter, the younger brother of Justine's best friend and -- shocker! -- apparently her live-in boyfriend. I say shocker because Justine has forgotten the past two years, including her relationship with poor Carter.

The premise of this story is really good, but the execution just had me frowning in irritation too many times. While I can only imagine how traumatic this situation would be, Justine comes off as very immature and more than a little witchy several times throughout the book. Everyone around her (people she has every reason to trust) is telling her she's in a really good relationship with Carter, but all she does at first is try to avoid him. Frankly, she's downright mean and hateful a couple of times. The poor guy is bending over backward to take care of her and she's treating him like her best friend's little brother who's still in high school, for Pete's sake! And even having "lost" two years, Justine would still be 28, not 18.

Carter, on the other hand, is a very endearing hero. He's not just good-looking and sexy, he's actually a really good man. The first time things start to get a little out of hand physically, Carter is the one who calls a halt to it, feeling it's not fair to Justine (Justine of course, gets all snotty and screams at him). Carter continues to patiently take care of Justine, hoping she'll remember him and their love. For Justine to have had such a problem with his being four years younger than she was, Carter was the more mature one in the relationship!

Possible spoiler alert (but I'll try hard not to)! I had a problem with the whole Elisa angle. I really wanted a reason for what she did, and none was given. There were a lot of ways the author could have handled it, but it was just kind of there, with no real resolution (unless -- dare we hope? -- Cheryl goes and beats the snot out of Elisa in another story? lol).

One other minor issue I had was, if you're going to write about sex and specifically, write sex scenes, do it. Don't dance around it and call things cutesy (weird) names. It's a penis, not a peen. This struck me as very juvenile, in light of the context.

I'd probably recommend this book to the early 20-ish set. Much past that, and I don't think you'd enjoy it that much.
It was an amusing read, but so poorly executed. Elisa was just thrown in there randomly, and there were no reasons given for her actions. Also wasn't sure what was so incredibly traumatic about the proposal that Justine would block out 2 years after hitting her head.

I read both the Justine POV and the Carter POV, and the second POV book was a complete waste of time. I would expect to get something different from the second POV, not just an almost word-for-word recap of the dialogue from the first POV.

The author's writing was enjoyable, but she needs to work on her plot and character development.
